In large and complex operations, continuous small improvements when added together can make significant gains. There are hundreds of electrical cable connections between junction boxes and electrical devices such as lights in operatains that require regular maintenance. Cable gland washers prevent the ingress of dust and water that can cause electrical malfunctions and faults. Due to the exposed nature of operations, over time these can deteriorate and need replacement. To minimise the large cost to replace a washer: Our solution. The IP Split Washer.
The IP Split Washer enables repair to damaged or missing IP washers on existing installed cable glands without having to go through the standard repair process. This split washer enables cost-effective and efficient repairs by reducing the number of people, materials and tasks involved compared to the standard repair process. It is UV-resistant, ozone-resistant, has an IP66/68 degree of protection and is available for various thread sizes.
The IP Split Washer offers time savings when replacing worn washer gaskets due to easy installation. The split washer gasket consists of a ratchet mechanism and a restraining clip. The washer surface on the retaining clip just needs to be in contact with the cable gland sealing surface when installed and all cable glands tightened with appropriate torque.
With this innovative product, it is a simple matter of loosening the connection, cutting out the old washer and slipping the new washer into place. All this work can in many cases be done live, avoiding all the issues with offline works including isolation and permits. The time and cost savings per cable gland is massive being up to $5,000 per washer. With the vast number of cable gland washers on site, this represents a massive gain in our drive towards more affordable energy.
