Maximizing Safety!

Solid-state scanner with rugged ToF technology for perfect protection at every closing edge.

ShieldScan® Door Protection Sensor

Just a Bit of Protection—No Such Thing!

An it-isn’t-stylish-and-doesn’t-protect-you bike helmet, an I-think-I’d-rather-not-crash airbag, and a well-at-least-it’s-round lifesaver—perfect examples that nothing should be just a little safe! The same applies to automatic door protection. The ShieldScan door protection sensor ensures complete safety for your swing doors in accordance with EN16005. Learn more about the new sensor generation that combines innovative technology, easy commissioning, and minimalist design without any compromises.

Door protection by Pepperl+Fuchs

Maximum Reliability in Any Environment

Benefits

Reliable Protection at All Times

Reliable Protection at All Times

With only one module per side and specially aligned individual beams, the door protection sensor monitors the entire door leaf as well as the main and secondary closing edges. It works precisely and reliably with advanced time-of-flight technology—even with polished floors, extraneous light, and reflections.
Silent Operation and Increased Longevity

Silent Operation and Increased Longevity

The ShieldScan door protection sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs is based on static time-of-flight sensor technology—preventing friction, wear and tear, and damage to bearing. This increases longevity and limits operation noise from moving parts.

Compact, Low-Profile Housing Design

The ShieldScan with IP65 rating features a simple, slim, and compact housing design. Its cover with an integrated seal can be easily removed and reliably deflects raindrops. Users can choose from different color options, making the module virtually invisible in any door frame.
Easy Assembly and Installation

Easy Assembly and Installation

Via plug-and-play, the pre-assembled ShieldScan can be installed in just a few steps. Users can quickly and intuitively commission the device via simple gesture control for field adjustment, and dynamic protective field adjustment.

Innovative Technology, No Compromises

Innovative Technology, No Compromises

The new ShieldScan for door protection uses time-of-flight technology. This calculates distance based on the travel time of a beam of light and allows safe and millimeter-accurate measurements with high repeat accuracy and short response times. With an optimized beam geometry, the sensor is tailored to the different requirements of the three door areas. Thus, the ShieldScan monitors the main closing edge, the door leaf, and the secondary closing edge with its specially aligned individual beams. It reliably detects if a person or object interrupts the protective beams. Depending on the height and width of the door to be protected, the beam path adapts to the door conditions.

Protecting Main Closing Edge
Protecting Main Closing Edge

This scan area protects the zone at the main closing edge. Due to the exposed beam path, the sensor always detects past the handrail and does not hit the door handle.

Pinch Protection for the Hinge Edge
Pinch Protection for the Hinge Edge

This beam area surrounds the secondary closing edge. Due to the curved beam field at the hinge edge, the ShieldScan detects lateral gripping. This ensures optimized protection between the door frame and the hinge. This helps users achieve the best pinch protection available on the market.

Protecting the Door Leaf
Protecting the Door Leaf

This beam path secures the leaf of the automatic door. The door stops moving if the protective field is interrupted by a person or an object.

Plug-and-play Sensor in a Compact Housing Design

Consisting of basic housing and a cover, the ShieldScan can be mounted with only a few steps and a maximum of three screws on the secondary closing edge. One sensor per door side is sufficient to secure the entire door leaf. During commissioning, the sensor system first memorizes the distance to the ground. Using intuitive gesture control, the distance to the main closing edge (door width) is first defined and, during subsequent door travel, the maximum opening angle of the door is defined.

Functionalities

“Virtual Wall” for Dynamic Protective Field Adjustment

The sensor has a dynamic, angle-dependent adjustment of its protective field, therefore, an explicit teach-in of a wall behind the opened door is not necessary. When the door is opened, the individual beams of the protective field are faded out, one after the other, until the maximum door opening angle is reached. Changes behind the open door are thus ignored. This enables smooth operation, even with changed environmental conditions such as plants.

Easy Installation and Commissioning

The ShieldScan door protection sensor can be installed and commissioned quickly and easily. All required components are included in the scope of delivery. This how-to video shows you in detail how the installation and commissioning works.

Minimalist Design That Fits Every Installation Situation

The ShieldScan door protection sensor features a cubic, narrow plastic housing for inconspicuous installation—for example on glass doors with particularly narrow door frames.
With its optimized housing design, the sensor seamlessly fits into any door design!
