With some identification systems, the working temperature range of the tag makes it impossible to use standard paper or plastic printed barcodes for the application.
With the OIT system (short for Optical Identification Terminal), the code carriers consists of a metal plate with a matrix of drilled holes encoded with the tag information (up to 16,000 different codes of 1-5 digits). With this method, high temperatures up to 500 °C and high mechanical loads are possible with long code carrier lifetimes. Simple installation without complicated and lengthy teach-in allows a fast startup. Connections are made via plug-in for fast equipment exchange. Control is greatly simplified via the Ethernet interface ensuring simple operation of the command sentences.
