On Every Plane.

Measuring up to the third dimension—in four scanning planes or with 100 Hz.

LiDAR Sensors—R2300 Series

The R2300 3-D LiDAR sensor is equipped with Pulse Ranging Technology (PRT), which provides reliable and extremely precise measurements with high accuracy and short response times. PRT continuously measures a target’s distance by emitting short yet powerful pulses of light and calculating the time interval between sending and receiving a pulse. Mechanical separation between the emitting and receiving areas means exceptionally high pollution tolerance.

Two variants are available for a wide range of applications: The multilayer scanner combines four scanning planes in a single device, ensuring high reliability and cost-effectiveness for 3-D measurements. The single-layer scanner achieves a particularly high scan rate of 100 Hz by scanning on one plane—ideal for object detection in high-speed applications.

Benefits

Versatility and Cost-Effectiveness

Measuring in 3-D or at High Speed

The R2300 series offers the right LiDAR sensor for every challenge: The multilayer scanner provides particularly comprehensive information with the aid of four scan planes, therefore enabling 3-D measurements. The single-layer scanner can be used in high-speed applications due to its increased scan rate of 100 Hz.
Precision and Flexibility in Your Application

Precision and Flexibility in Your Application

With a very high angular resolution of 0.1 °, a high sampling rate, and a precise light spot, the LiDAR sensor precisely and reliably detects the smallest object structures and contours. In addition, the 100 ° horizontal measuring range can be reduced to any size so users only receive the measurement data relevant to their application.
Easy Installation and Commissioning

Easy Installation and Commissioning

An integrated pilot laser can be switched on to allow users to simply align and commission the R2300 without additional tools. In addition, the LiDAR sensor can be mounted individually, or multiple sensors can be mounted side by side, depending on the required field of view.
Compact and Rugged Housing

Compact and Rugged Housing

Solid-state electronics make the R2300 LiDAR sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs especially durable. Designed for longevity, the sensor can withstand impact and vibration. Due to its compact housing design, the multi-layer sensor is also ideal for applications in tight spaces such as those in automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

Two application examples explain the benefits of the sensor in the application: mounted on an automated guided vehicle for collision avoidance and for rear zone monitoring.

The R2300—Explained at the Exhibition Booth

Thorsten Schroeder, Product Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs, introduces the R2300 LiDAR sensor, which can be used to solve a wide range of applications in a cost-effective way.

Use Cases

Rear Zone Monitoring

The R2300 multilayer scanner can be mounted on the rear of a forklift. While the truck is in reverse, the LiDAR sensor monitors the area behind the forklift based on the steering angle and speed of the vehicle. The R2300’s high sampling rate and measurement density ensure that objects and structures of all sizes are detected. When an obstacle is detected, an alert signal can be triggered and the vehicle can be stopped.

Carrier Detection in Robotic Applications

Mounted on a robot arm, the R2300 multilayer scanner can provide data about load carriers, their position, and the loads they are carrying via its four scan planes. This allows the robot to detect the relative position between the carrier and its load, with no need for fixed reference positions. Users benefit from reliable detection and a cost-effective solution.

Navigation Support and Collision Avoidance

When integrated into AGVs, the R2300 multilayer scanner enables object tracking, follow me, and reliable collision avoidance. The LiDAR sensor monitors the area in front of the vehicle—from the floor to a person’s legs. These serve as reference points for recognizing the person's direction of movement and for following at a defined distance. Because of its four scanning planes and precise light spot, the R2300 detects even the smallest obstacles and ensures smooth processes.

Volume Measurement at High Speed

In many logistics and manufacturing areas, the volume of freight, workpieces, or other goods must be determined. To ensure that this process is as efficient as possible, measurement should take place within the natural flow of materials. With its high scan rate of 100 Hz, the R2300 single-layer scanner is ideally suited for this task: Two sensors mounted above the conveyor system detect all sides of the conveyed products and therefore enable reliable volume measurement in motion.
