Pepperl+Fuchs’ expertise in fieldbus connectivity for both factory and process automation is built on decades of experience. With new Ethernet IO modules, Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its product portfolio with additional interfaces to industrial fieldbus systems. The new modules offer an array of innovative features to provide users maximum flexibility and efficiency.
Whether PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or EtherCAT, the modules support all common Ethernet protocols, and you can easily set the desired protocol type using the rotary selector on the device. Due to this multi-protocol capability, the modules are compatible with all common PLCs. This makes them easy to integrate into existing installations, independent of the type of PLC, and reduces the number of components needed. The result is lower costs and the ability to standardize plant design.
The modules’ innovative power connector with an L-coded M12 plug connection allows a higher current rating of up to 16 A. Hence, the Ethernet IO modules are able to meet higher peak loads. There is no need for parallel wiring, so fewer cables are needed. This reduces the wiring effort and eases installation.
Furthermore, the interface design contributes to a simplified wiring: The inserts for ‘data’, ‘communication’, and ‘power’ are color-coded, so that installation errors can be avoided.
The rugged design of the Ethernet IO modules allows various mounting options and an easy integration into the plant—no matter whether it is directly on the machine or alongside conveyors. Due to a universal mounting adapter, the modules are compatible with other products available on the market. This additionally simplifies their use within the plant.
The Ethernet IO modules are extremely robust: with a fully encapsulated metal housing they are suited for rough conditions. Due to protection class IP 65/67, they are dust-tight and can withstand both water jets and immersion in water. In a temperature range from -20 °C to +70 °C, neither cold nor heat can harm the modules. Thus, the Ethernet IO modules are extremely durable and suited even for harsh industrial environments.
The Ethernet IO modules do not only convince by their outer appearance, but also offer many additional functionalities. Due to various diagnostic functions, users can improve transparency within the process and reduce downtimes in the plant. LEDs provide status information of each channel, allowing channel-specific diagnosis at all times. An integrated web server allows remote access to network parameters such as IP address, subnet masks, and gateways. In the case of faults, these functions enable much quicker reaction.
The ‘decentralized intelligence’ of the Ethernet IO module additionally improves the efficiency within the plant. Equipped with this function, the modules are able to solve smaller applications without any dependency on a remote control panel. For this, the Ethernet IO modules evaluate parameters autonomously. Information is transferred to the PLC only if it is necessary. This decentralized intelligence improves reaction times and disburdens the higher-level system. Combined with the multi-protocol capability and the innovative power connectors, the Ethernet IO modules are real efficiency boosters.
