Wireless Inductive System WIS

WIS – Wireless Inductive System

  • Wireless communication allows sensor connection without the problems associated with cable flexing
  • Wireless power transmission / communication to the sensor
  • Non-contact components reduce wear and downtime
  • Suitable for harsh ambient conditions

Greater freedom in plant design
The coupling of sensors to moving machine components is a special challenge in automation technology. Conventional solutions with drag chains or slip rings have the disadvantage of a severely limited service life on account of their mechanical nature, so that costs for maintenance and replacement are regularly incurred.

The WIS inductive transfer system from Pepperl+Fuchs operates intelligently and efficiently.

Construction
A WIS inductive transfer system consists of the following components:

  • WIS module, primary
  • WIS transmitter, primary
  • WIS transmitter, secondary
  • WIS module, secondary

Flexible incorporation, easy installation
WIS offers a wear-free solution for sensor operation:

  • Change tools on rotary tables and presses
  • Object recognition on work piece carriers
  • Component manufacture
  • Rotating tools
  • Robot grippers

Function
These systems operate on the principle of inductive coupling and consist of primary and secondary electronics. For the purpose of energy transfer, an inductive alternating field is created on the primary side. When the secondary circuit enters this field, a voltage is induced through negative feedback and energy is thus transferred. This is sufficient to operate inductive, optical or ultrasonic sensors directly on the moving machine components. The signal states of the sensors are transferred to the primary side by means of individual transmission pulses and are thus made available to the control system.
