The PROFINET and PROFIBUS Power Hub is a modular, motherboard-based power supply system for four PROFIBUS PA segments. It consists of one or two motherboards and various plug-in modules for power supply to the fieldbus segment, a connection to PROFIBUS DP or PROFINET and Advanced Diagnostics for the physical layer. Motherboards provide the following selectable attributes:
Output power per segment is up to 30 V/500 mA. Redundancy is selectable independently for the power supply and the gateway.
This segment coupler 3, characterized by the slender power supply modules, is backward compatible to all previous segment couplers 1, 2 and 3.
All Power Hubs for four segments are approved for installation in Zone 2 or Division 2 hazardous areas. A choice of power supply modules with different ratings in combination with suitable device couplers (FieldBarrier or Segment Protector) enable all common methods of ignition protection at the field device utilizing the high-power trunk concept. They are flameproof enclosure Ex d and intrinsic safety Ex ia, Ex ib or Ex ic acc. to FISCO/Entity for any hazardous location.
Symmetric impedance generation ensures optimal signal quality. Impedance generation is based on passive components only, which guarantees low heat dissipation and thus a long service life. Together with the small foot print, this Power Hub provides the highest segment count per control cabinet reducing foot print and thus saving all associated effort and expenditure.
The motherboard is designed for DIN rail installation. All modules snap on the motherboard without using tools. In redundant configuration, the modules can be replaced without interrupting the power supply or communication.
The gateway module is selectable for communication to the DCS via PROFINET or PROFIBUS DP. PROFINET supports line redundancy and system redundancy S2. Tools are provided for DCS integration enabling easy setup, configuration and troubleshooting of the gateway and the field instruments.
The PROFIBUS DP connection is transparent. This means that the segment coupler itself is without configuration and all PROFIBUS PA devices appear to the DP-Master as if they were connected to PROFIBUS DP directly. This is a simple and clear setup with minimal engineering effort for planning and plant upkeep. When connected in pairs, gateways support flying redundancy.
The optional advanced diagnostic module enables easy monitoring of various quality indicators of the fieldbus physical layer of PROFIBUS PA. This allows faster plant start-up, improved reliability of the segments, and more efficient troubleshooting.
Connect process variables from the instrument and their NAMUR diagnostics directly to your control system via CFC function blocks of the Siemens Advanced Process Library. This conveniently automates the entire engineering process via the PROFINET driver library. Find all information in this PDF flyer.
