The Ex p pressurized encapsulation is an explosion protection method which allows the use of cost-effective devices without explosion protection approval in explosion hazardous areas up to zone 1.
A pressurizing system consists of a control unit with integrated pressure monitor, solenoid valve and a pressure-proof housing.
Air or an inert gas such as nitrogen is fed into the enclosure housing, thus producing a non-explosive atmosphere preventing any present ignition sources from triggering an explosion.
The control unit, in conjunction with the pressure switch, monitors the circulation process and the pressure. After the initial purging is completed it allows to activate the electrical device. If the enclosure is opened the pressure decreases and the control unit disconnects the electrical device from the power supply.
