Coal dust safety in coal power plants is a challenging physical hazard for power plant operators. Coal dusts have a similar potential for fire and explosion as do flammable vapors or gases. Dust safety and guidelines for classifying dust locations and applying the International Electric Code (IEC) or National Electrical Code (NEC) to dust areas is an important aspect of coal fired power plant safety.
