Field devices in process plants gather valuable additional data on their own condition and environment. Until now, this information could rarely be used due to a lack of continuous communication channels from the field to the control room.

The PROFINET gateways support HART/HART IP to transmit process variables and additional status information from field devices. At the same time, HART IP can be used to effectively manage assets.
The new PROFINET gateways provide S2 system redundancy for plants that require high availability, connecting the remote I/O station to redundant controllers. This allows the continuity of the process, even iif a controller fails or stops.
For a high level of protection against unwanted interruptions or errors in the installation, users can install gateways in ring redundancy. If necessary, the redundancy manager initiates automatic reconfiguration of the network and ensures communication of the segments not affected by the failure.
The LB and FB PROFINET gateways feature the largest touch display available on the market for this type of device. RGB LEDs and display symbols comply with the NAMUR 107 standard and indicate device and field unit status by displaying diagnostic and status information in a clear and standardized way.
Possible checks include status of communication with the master system, internal bus status, HART device recognition, and identification of faulty modules. This reduces downtime and costs. The gateways can be conveniently configured in the field via the touch display.
With the help of dynamic reconfiguration, the PROFINET LB and FB remote I/O systems from Pepperl+Fuchs not only allow to change the settings of field devices. They even extend this concept to the pluggable I/O modules, which can also be freely configured regarding signal type and number. This offers maximum flexibility and reduced effort and time, for example when replacing a module.
The remote I/O is also a shared device for multiple controllers and systems. Via the engineering, up to 184 inputs or outputs can be configured and assigned to any controller on one LB or FB remote I/O station. Thus users can reduce instruments, piping, wiring and the number of control cabinets significantly.
