Ultrasonic Sensor System USi®-industry with Two Independent Sensor Channels
Ultrasonic Sensor in Industrial Quality
The USi-industry combines all the advantages of industrial ultrasonic technology from Pepperl+Fuchs in one device. Regardless of material, color or surface finish, it enables reliable object detection in challenging environmental conditions and in outdoor areas.
Outstanding Detection Abilities
As its miniature ultrasonic transducers are detached from the evaluation unit, the USi-industry can be used in confined installation situations. The special design of the IP69-rated transducers allows the sensor system to cover an elliptical, three-dimensional sound field with opening angles of ± 17° and ± 5°, providing outstanding detection abilities.
Maximum Flexibility in Operation
The two sensor channels of the USi-industry operate completely independently of each other, enabling an exceptionally high level of flexibility. In addition, two different parameter sets can be stored for each autonomous sensor channel and switched between them via a parameterizable digital input.
Optimal Application Adaptation
The USi-industry offers a teach-in mode that goes beyond simply teaching in switch points. Instead, the entire environment within the detection field is taught in. Three selectable operating modes and adjustable sensor cycle times further increase adaptability to the respective application.
Technology

The System
The USi-industry ultrasonic sensor system consists of an evaluation unit, up to two ultrasonic transducers, and the software. To learn more about the individual components, click through the items on the right.
The Components

The evaluation unit enables the connection of up to two independently operating ultrasonic transducers via standardized M8 connections. The integrated USB interface enables the connection to a PC. Using the PC software, numerous sensor behaviors can be conveniently set. Two different parameter sets can be taught in for each autonomous sensor channel, so that a parameterizable digital input can be used to switch between the two sets during operation without interruption. The digital input can also be used to switch off the outputs completely or for teaching in changing environments during operation.
Furthermore, the USi-industry system is not limited to the output of value-discrete signals: In addition to the standard version with four switching outputs, the evaluation unit is also available as a version with three switching outputs and a 4...20 mA or 0...10 V analog output for measuring applications.
The robust die-cast aluminum housing complies with degree of protection (IP65), making the evaluation unit also suitable for outdoor use. In addition to the connections for the ultrasonic transducers, there is a USB interface for convenient parameterization via PC.

Depending on the application conditions, the detached ultrasonic transducers of the USi-industry system are mounted in vertical or horizontal mounting brackets (as shown here) with screw connectors at the place of use. During operation, the sensors generate an elliptical sound beam allowing the USi-industry system to reliably detect even the smallest objects within this wide 3-D sensing range of up to 2500 mm.
In addition to the high degree of protection (IP69), the ultrasonic transducers impress with their very compact design for confined installation spaces. In combination with cable lengths of up to 3 m, they are particularly easy to integrate into various applications. Depending on the application requirements, the transducers can also be installed in customized or self-made mounting brackets or fixtures.
The general conditions to be observed to maintain measurement accuracy are listed in detail in the USi-industry installation manual. If required, Pepperl+Fuchs provides support with technical expertise and advice to ensure seamless integration of the ultrasonic transducers into the installation environment.

The free device type manager (DTM) for the PACTware parameterization software enables smooth commissioning of the USi-industry senor system. It guides users through the initial routine while allowing a numerous settings such as switch points, output logic, and ultrasound-specific parameters to be customized. As the two ultrasonic transducers operate independently of each other, individual parameter settings can also be taught in for each sensor. In addition, the graphical user interface displays the echo envelope in real time for diagnosis and visualization of the detection range.
