On June 2, 2016, Pepperl+Fuchs broke ground on a new US Distribution Center in Katy, Texas near Houston. Dr. Gunther Kegel, CEO of Pepperl+Fuchs GmbH, was on hand to help celebrate the occasion. A ground breaking ceremony took place at the site location and was attended by Katy Mayor, Fabol Hughes; Katy City Administrator, Byron Hebert; Katy Economic Development Committee President, Lance LaCour; and the Executive Vice Presidents of Pepperl+Fuchs’ FA and PA divisions, Bob Smith and Jim Bolin respectively.
The new Distribution Center will be a 110,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art warehouse and manufacturing plant. The USDC will also house an expanded Solution Engineering Center, a customer training area, warehouse space and distribution facilities. One of the unique aspects of the new Distribution Center is it will actually showcase Pepperl+Fuchs sensors at work. The highly complex AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) will be controlled predominately by Pepperl+Fuchs sensors and automation technology.
The USDC’s high-tech manufacturing plant will become the hub for production of Pepperl+Fuchs’ purge and HMI product lines. The Solution Engineering Center (SEC) will be staffed by a team of professionals who design, build and certify customized solutions on site for process automation in hazardous locations, such as oil refineries, pharmaceutical plants and other facilities. Rather than taking months to separately engineer, manufacture and certify solutions, the SEC will build and certify industry leading solutions in a matter of weeks.
The new building is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017. The Solutions Engineering Center in Katy will be one of six throughout the world, with others in England, Germany, China, Australia and Italy.
