Flexible Automation Solution with Decentralized Intelligence

Fieldbus systems ensure reliable data transfer between the control and sensor/actuator levels. When considering future Industry 4.0 scenarios, flexible automation solutions and real-time data transfer are becoming more important than ever. Ethernet IO modules from Pepperl+Fuchs fulfill this task and quickly and connect both digital sensors/actuators and IO-Link devices. The modules support the most common Ethernet protocols: PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCAT. The desired protocol can be set directly on the module using a rotary switch. The multiprotocol capability of the Ethernet IO modules enables direct Ethernet communication with all common control panels with just one device.

The Ethernet IO modules offer comprehensive diagnostic functions that improve process transparency. LEDs provide status information for each channel, allowing channel-specific diagnostics at all times. An integrated web server enables remote access to network parameters such as IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateways.

power connector with L-coded M12 plug allows a current rating of up to 16 A. As a result, the modules are able to meet higher peak loads and fewer cables are needed.

fully encapsulated metal housing makes the modules extremely durable and suited for harsh conditions. The rugged design allows various mounting options, which eases installation and integration into existing plants. With this array of innovative features, Ethernet IO modules boost plant efficiency.

IO-Link Master

In its portfolio of fieldbus modules, Pepperl+Fuchs offers Ethernet IO modules with integrated IO-Link master that allow seamless communication from IO-Link-enabled sensors/actuators to the control system. Up to eight IO-Link devices can be directly connected—four channels are available for sensor technology and four for actuators. The IO-Link master makes seamless parameterization, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance possible down to the sensor/actuator level.
Whereas the ICE1 series multi-protocol modules are ideally suited for PLC-based applications, the ICE2 and ICE3 series IO-Link masters with integrated OPC UA interface enable cloud-based Industry 4.0 solutions.

Digital Modules

Aside from the range of fieldbus modules with integrated IO-Link master, Pepperl+Fuchs also offers Ethernet IO modules for up to 16 digital sensors and actuators. These modules support the most common Ethernet protocols—PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCAT—in a single device. With “decentralized intelligence” as an optional function, digital modules can even solve small applications independently without first having to forward information to the control center. This relieves pressure on the higher-level system, increases response time, and supports the requirements of Industry 4.0.

IO-Link Master with S2 Redundancy for High-Reliability Systems

Critical applications such as chemical or pharmaceutical plants require for system redundancy to prevent unplanned downtimes and the associated costs. For this reason, the communication mechanism of the new IO-Link masters supports the S2 redundancy functionality which allows an additional programmable logic controller (PLC) to take over process control automatically in the event of a control-related failure of the primary PLC. Compared to conventional I/O modules, the ICE1 masters with S2 redundancy come with a particularly resistant, diecast zinc housing and an extended temperature range that open up a wide range of applications the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.

I/O Hubs

I/O hubs with IO-Link interface enable efficient incorporation of binary sensors/actuators into an intelligent IO-Link system. This is how only one junction line can transfer up to 16 digital IOs to an IO-Link master. The space-saving solutions reduce wiring effort and errors since both signal transmission and power supply take place along the same line. A rugged, molded metal housing and an extended temperature range from -25 °C to +70 °C make I/O hubs suited for use in harsh industrial environments.
