19/03/2025Reliable and Compact: New Surge Protection Modules for 3-Wire Applications

Pepperl+Fuchs has expanded its universally applicable signal line protection systems with an additional 3-wire solution. The M-LB-2000 system now includes the new M-LB-2600 modules designed to protect 3-wire transmitters and sensors. They come in in multiple variants and remain available in their compact 6 mm housing.
Certain surge protection applications require high measurement accuracy to ensure the operational safety of electrical installations. This is particularly critical for infrastructure sectors such as energy supply, water supply, transportation, and healthcare.

More Precision, More Safety
Compared to the simpler 2-wire measurement, the 3-wire measurement offers significant advantages. 2-wire measurements can be influenced by the resistance of the measuring lines, leading to inaccuracies, especially at low resistance values. 3-wire technology, however, eliminates these influences, increases precision, and ensures more reliable testing.

Three Wires, More Safety: The 3-Wire Measurement Principle
In 3-wire measurement, three wires create three separate circuits: In addition to measuring the field variable, lead resistances are measured both with and without the measuring resistor, allowing the lead resistance to be eliminated from the final result. This setup ensures that voltage drops along the connection cables do not affect the measurement results. The 3-wire measurement offers multiple advantages: it minimizes line resistance influences, enabling higher measurement accuracy and longer cable distances. Pepperl+Fuchs now offers eight new devices to effectively protect signals from or to hazardous and non-Ex areas, including 24 V signals and low-voltage applications such as temperature signals and various topologies.
