The following external influences affect capacitive sensors:

  • Electromagnetic fields
  • Cross-talk caused by electromagnetic fields
  • Material-related influences that contribute to detection fluctuations
  • Size of objects being detected
  • Sensor size
  • Passing speed
  • High and low temperatures
  • Humidity (rainwater, splashing water, relative humidity)
  • Pressure, heat, dirt, etc.

Accordingly, the installation and ambient conditions and any normative requirements must be taken into account for reliable operation of capacitive sensors.

The installation conditions provide information about optimal installation of the capacitive sensors in the application without restricting their specified function (i.e., their operating distance).
