RFID Authentication, Explosion Protection, and Hygiene: The Complete HMI Package

Hold the card or chip to it and you are done: that is how quickly and easily an authorized employee can be identified using RFID technology. At the same time, access to critical processes can be documented in detail, ensuring security and traceability with little effort. The HMI VisuNet FLX series offers operating devices with integrated RFID readers for simple user authentication up to Zone 2/22, Div. 2.


Fast, Individual, and Noncontact

RFID readers capture the information on a tag without contact: the small data memory in chip or card form only needs to be held briefly in the reading range of the reader. This user authentication prevents unauthorized access to the process control system without the time-consuming entry of passwords and login information and also enables fully automatic documentation. Access rights can be customized for each employee. For example, the backend system can differentiate between authorization levels and grant access to certain process steps or alternative workflows.


Can Be Used up to Zone 2/22, Div. 2

The RFID20-* series devices are approved for use in hazardous areas up to Zone 2/22, Div. 2 pending, and can be connected to a PC as a stand-alone, flush-mountable device for integration into existing housings or cabinets via a USB port. However, the preferred mounting option is to integrate the reader into the housing of a VisuNet FLX industrial monitor. This provides users with a plug-and-play solution that can be installed both indoors and outdoors.


Highest Hygiene Standards for Pharmaceutical Production

Integrated assembly offers decisive advantages in areas with high hygiene standards. The HMI systems used there must meet the requirements of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and be easy to clean. The VisuNet FLX series is specifically designed for use in pharmaceutical cleanrooms. The robust stainless steel housing has no inaccessible gaps or surfaces where deposits can collect and is resistant to the aggressive cleaning agents commonly used in the industry.

VisuNet RM Shell 6 thin client software offers

  • the latest Windows security features,
  • strict access control,
  • direct configuration of the RFID reader, and
  • a tracking mode to identify existing tag types.

It enables optimal reader configuration according to your requirements and backend authentication with the database.

The VisuNet Control Center management software supports you to

  • generally, manage all RM Shell thin clients, and to
  • remotely configure the RFID readers, including reconfiguration and duplication of existing configurations to replace or add new thin clients.

The integrated RFID reader provides operating personnel with a complete package from a single source, making user authentication not only more secure but also more efficient.
