Pepperl+Fuchs’ expertise in fieldbus connectivity for both factory and process automation is built on decades of experience. With new Ethernet IO modules, Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its product portfolio with additional interfaces to industrial fieldbus systems. The new modules offer an array of innovative features to provide users maximum flexibility and efficiency.
Whether PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or EtherCAT, the modules support all common Ethernet protocols, and you can easily set the desired protocol type using the rotary selector on the device. Due to this multi-protocol capability, the modules are compatible with all common PLCs. This makes them easy to integrate into existing installations, independent of the type of PLC, and reduces the number of components needed. The result is lower costs and the ability to standardize plant design.
The modules’ innovative power connector with an L-coded M12 plug connection allows a higher current rating of up to 16 A. As a result, the modules are able to meet higher peak loads, and fewer cables are needed. This makes wiring and installation easier.
The interface design also contributes to simplified wiring: The inserts for ‘data’, ‘communication’, and ‘power’ are color coded, so installation errors can be avoided.
The rugged design of the Ethernet IO modules allows various mounting options and easy integration—no matter whether it is mounted directly on the machine or alongside conveyors. Due to a universal mounting adapter, the modules are compatible with other products available on the market. This makes them even easier to integrate into a plant.
The modules are extremely durable: with a fully encapsulated metal housing, they are suited for tough conditions. With IP 65/67 protection, they are dust-tight and can withstand water jets and immersion in water. In a temperature range from -20 °C to +70 °C, neither cold nor heat can harm the modules. Thus, the rugged design of these modules ensures durability in harsh, industrial environments.
The new modules are more than just a tough exterior—they also offer many additional functionalities. Due to comprehensive diagnostic functions, users can improve transparency within the process and reduce downtimes in the plant. LEDs provide status information for each channel, allowing channel-specific diagnosis at all times. An integrated web server allows remote access to network parameters such as IP address, subnet masks, and gateways. In case of faults, these functions allow for a much quicker reaction.
With local control functionality, the Ethernet IO module further improves plant efficiency. Equipped with this function, the modules are able to handle smaller applications without any dependency on a remote control panel. For this, the modules evaluate parameters autonomously. Information is transferred to the PLC only if it is necessary. This “decentralized intelligence” improves reaction times and unburdens the higher-level system. Combined with the multi-protocol capability and the innovative power connectors, the Ethernet IO modules are real efficiency boosters.
